Any real mother who loves her children would do anything necessary (rob, steal, sell drugs, or whatever) to support them, but for Shaquan Duley, a 29-year-old, unemployed South Carolina mom of two, murdering her babies (ages 1 and 2) was apparently her way out. Duley admitted to smothering her two boys, saying she just didn’t think she could support them, according to reports.
The bodies of the children were found in a car submerged in a river, but Duley allegedly told police that they were dead before she strapped them into their car seats. She smothered them with her own hands at a nearby motel before sending the car into the river and trying to pass if off as an accident, CNN reports.
“She just wanted to get rid of the children, as sad as that may be,” the sheriff said in a press conference. He said Duley had an argument with her mother about the children earlier. “I believe she was fed up with her mother telling her she couldn’t take care of her children,” he speculated.
