Very few streetwear brands have such authentic, deep roots or genuine connection to music as adidas. In 1986 Run DMC broke new ground in the hip hop fashion world when they debuted their hit single “My Adidas,” exhibiting their own unique style which continues to have a huge influence in the urban, hip hop arena.
DMC shares the unique story of how the movement began:
In 2004 Missy Eliot rocked the scene with her “Respect M.E.” clothing line produced by adidas Originals giving females more innovative sporty styles that could be worn on any occasion. Missy’s originality has always set her apart from the rest, and she describes what it means to her to be an original: “You just be different…. I always say if everybody say come in and have on white when you walk in the party, I’m going to be the one to come in and have on black. Always be the opposite from everybody else…. If you’re doing what everybody else is doing, you just kind of fall in the cracks.”
The adidas Originals women’s collection continues to expand and offer great styles for any occasion for the Spring/Summer 2010 season. The capsule range contains products to create streetwear, fashion or casual looks that cater for the various needs of today’s female lifestyle consumers and at the same time prove that they can be combined as well.
Singers Adrienne Bailon and Ciara are among the new kids on the block “Celebrating Originality in the Streets.” For this year’s Women’s Lookbook, adidas tossed the camera to their new models, flipping the script and letting them get behind the lens to document each other as they worked the pavement to show you how to hit your urban catwalk with adidas feminine, everyday, and street looks.
