African Designers and Shoes to Dominate The Runway This Fall in NYC

October 5, 2015

African prints have been dominating the runways for the past several seasons, but what’s been missing are more African and black designers. Sol Afrik plans to change all that during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York this coming September, 2012.

According to the company website, Sol Afrik Fashion Week New York will provide people from across the Diaspora, Latin America, and Asia a platform to trademark their original designs and exquisite creativity in a way that other fashion events and showcases have not

…Too often, ethnic designers have sought the opportunity to showcase their talents, only to be met with opposition and a lack of understanding of the African or Asian design aesthetic. Therefore, SAFWNY nurtures young designers while giving seasoned designers a proper platform to showcase their line in a way that the fashion industry has never seen global fashion.

Sol Afrik won’t be the only new happenings during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York this Fall. Fashion buyers and lovers can also look forward more shoes on the runway, with the addition of ‘Shoe Week.’

Shoe Week, which is co-founded by Paul Farkas, will focus on a series of events that will include a variety of runway shows, presentations, exhibitions, a media lounge, Handbag and Shoe Lounge, cocktail events, parties geared towards luxury shoes and related accessories, as a means to place this category and its designers front and center.
