Kerry Washington Reveals Signs of Hyperpigmentation and Talks Makeup

Hyperpigmentation or discoloration of the skin is a common problem with African American skin. It's a problem caused by a number of factors, including exposure to UV rays, heredity, skin lesion, hormonal changes, certain medications, and diet patterns.

Actress Kerry Washington was spotted recently at LAX and roaming the streets of Los Angeles, and beneath all the makeup she normally wears, she revealed visible signs of hyperpigmentation.

As you can see, skin discoloration can make a big difference in the skin's overall healthy appearance, and it's the one instance where skin lightening treatments such as Obagi Nu-Derm, when used properly, and as directed by a professional, are acceptable.

ESSENCE magazine
recently caught up with the beautiful Ms. Washington backstage of her acclaimed Broadway play, "Race," where she spoke on some of the makeup she uses to hide her imperfections, her favorite beauty icon, and if given the opportunity, the one product she would invent. What's the one beauty product you can't live without right now?
On stage, I love Armani Luminous Silk Foundation ($59) and my L'oreal Voluminous Volume Building Mascara ($8). Who's your ultimate beauty icon?
Iman! I think she's just gorgeous and she really knows how to take care of herself. If you could invent one beauty product, what would it be?
If I could invent one beauty product, I'd quit acting!

I would love a complete make-over, a chance to see what I would look like as a Cosmetic Model.
