Whether you’re down with the present BlackLivesMatter Movement and what it represents, or you’re stuck in a place that won’t allow you to see past divided circumstances, that’s none of my business. At the end of the day, those who focus on what they’re set out to do, and not distracted by what others think, win. And at the end of the day, Black Lives will always matter, no matter how disconnected from reality you might think it seems.
Some people get it. Kehinde Wiley for example understands why the BlackLivesMatter Movement is important. In her latest photo project entitled “Black Light,” for Paper Magazine, she states: “Black lives matter because it’s a prescient thing to highlight in this moment of cultural evolution,” meaning it’s plain to see our people are dying. “But black lives have mattered for thousands of years,” meaning we’ve been fighting for a long time to make a change, and we can’t stop now.
