D. Grier's Chocolate News: No Child Left Behind

June 6, 2011

Comedy Central is wondering if white people will get the whole concept of this show?  Hell, I'm still wondering if I even get it yet. I dunno, maybe I'm just a little slow.

“Chocolate News”, which is now showing on Wednesday nights at 10:30, features Grier tackling pop-culture topics from a decidedly African-American point of view. But unlike its fellow fake-news shows on Comedy Central, “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report”, “Chocolate News” is more sketch than it is screed.

“On our show, one of the rules is just to make these stories up,” said Grier. “Sure, we talk about Barack Obama, but I don't think we'll be doing impersonations. That's what 'SNL' does … and I didn't want to just do a black 'Daily Show,' because it's already there. It's a great show, and they do it better than anyone.”
