While police say they don't suspect foul play, King's mother and other members of his family don't believe the hype.
“We think that it's foul play, I don't care what anyone says,” said King's cousin. “My cousin… he was 6' 5″. He could swim. He surfed. He did all that stuff. For you to say that he drown? Okay … how? The pool was only 6 feet.”
Earlier reports say that King's next-door neighbor Sandra Gardea, 31, said she heard commotion in King's backyard early Sunday morning. Gardea said about 3 or 3:30 a.m. she heard someone sobbing.
“It just sounded like someone was really sad,” she said. “There was a lot of moaning and crying. Another person was trying to console that person.” source: LA Times
Gossip site, TMZ also reported a story that would lead people to believe that King's death was no accident.
According to our sources, King's fiancée, Cynthia Kelley, is telling friends King was at the house all day drinking, and he smoked marijuana at some point, before she went to went to bed at 2:00 AM.
We're told Kelley says she next saw King at around 5:00 AM when she was awoken by him screaming in the backyard. Our sources say Kelley found King naked, banging on the glass, and she called out to him, “What's wrong, Rodney?”
Kelley is telling friends she then went to grab her phone when she heard a big splash. She then went to the backyard and discovered him in the bottom of the pool and called police.
King's death is currently being investigated, and an autopsy will determine whether drugs and alcohol were involved.
