The Brazilian Blowout, a relatively new hair service that uses keratin treatment to eliminate frizz and give the hair a smooth appearance by blow drying it straight without the use of harsh chemicals, has steadily been on the rise. It quickly became a favorite for salon goers, including several celebrities, who praise the ending results. The service is ideal for all hair types, and is shown in the following video being performed on African American hair.

Of course with all new services, comes some concern of its safety. And while the creators of the Brazilian Blowout claim that their products are safe, new reports from Oregon’s Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) are claiming otherwise. After testing the products and finding traces of formaldehyde (a chemical known to cause cancer), they are advising stylists and consumers alike to either stop using the products, or to use the products according to formaldehyde standards.
