High School Student Told Dreadlocks Unacceptable for Homecoming

Without a policy in place, a Mississippi teen was wrongfully denied the right to participate in his high school's homecoming festivities because he was told by the school principal his dreadlocks were unacceptable.

“When I decided to grow my hair that's what I wanted to do. I thought it was acceptable, but from what the principal told me, homecoming is of a higher standard and dreads are just not acceptable,” Patrick Richardson told the grio. Patrick has been growing the dreads since last October and said the hairstyle is not prohibited nor addressed in any way in the school handbook.
