HP Webcam Tracking Software Doesn't Recognize Black Faces

Desi, an African-American, along with his White co-worker, demonstrates the facial tracking software used on HP's newest PCs, which allows the webcam to automatically follow users if they move around during video chat sessions.

THE PROBLEM: The software appears to be incapable of detecting people with dark skin.

After seeing the video, HP responded to it by saying:

“The technology we use is built on standard algorithms that measure the difference in intensity of contrast between the eyes and the upper cheek and nose…. We believe that the camera might have difficulty 'seeing' contrast in conditions where there is insufficient foreground lighting.”

Hummmmmmm, you might not want to waste your coins on this one.
