Singer and actress Jennifer Hudson is back on the scene, and she’s all about The Color Purple. In her latest Hollywood glam photo shoot for O Magazine she stated: “My closet is purple, my dressing room is purple, and I even love a purple lipstick!.”
Hudson’s retro-inspired look was completely in line with her latest role as Shug Avery in the 1985 film-turned-musical The Color Purple, which previewed in New York City on Nov. 10. The 1930’s-inspired deep waves, and smokey eye makeup were created by celebrity stylist Sam Fine. Her wardrobe included a purple sequined mini dress and sheer embroidered gown, paired with a shag fur coat and jewelry.
“I have butterflies taking on this role, but I like that. I never second guessed it – I just hopped right in,” said Hudson. “She is such a different funky character for me and I was very attached to book and the film.”
On her family enjoying living in New York: “We love seeing musicals. We’ve made it to The Lion King and Wicked already. My son says, ‘Mommy, this feels like home!’”
On how she takes care of her voice: “Plenty of rest, and I drink lots of warm water with lemon and honey.”
The issue hits news stands December 17.
