Meet The Sapeurs: Men Living In Poverty but Dress Like A Million Bucks

Who would have ever thought, in Congo, a country where half the people live below the poverty line, and more than 5 percent of the population are affected by HIV/AIDS, there’s a group of men (The Sapeurs) who believe dressing in high price designer clothes is more important than making a better life for their families first.

The Sapeurs, in French which stands for the Societe des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Elegantes (the Society of Tastemakers and Elegant People), are a band of men who turn the art of dressing into a cultural statement, and abide by a code befitting of the gentlemanly clothes they don so resplendently each morning.

While the kids of Congo are walking around dusty, some butt naked, barefoot, and working like slaves just to eat, these men (The Sapeurs) are saving for years just to buy high price suits, boots, and accessories for themselves. Apparently the message in E40’s single, Rapper’s Ball ft. Too $hort, and K-Ci mean nothing to them.

One can only imagine the selfish attitude these men have, and as sad as it is, one can’t help but shake their heads and laugh at their ignorant ways of thinking.
