A woman who has been labeled as mentally ill triggered a crowd of shoppers at Burlington Coat Factory to believe they were in the right place at the right time after announcing that she had just won $1.5 million dollars in the lottery and offered to spend $500 on everyone in the store.
The crowd was so excited they began to call friends and family to come and take part in the shopping spree, however, once the crowd learned that they had just been bamboozled they became angry and started to semi trash the place. Shoppers stormed the store, grabbing clothes without paying. 'It looks like Hurricane Katrina came through here,' said one officer.
The mentally ill woman was so far gone into her fantasy world and the idea that she had actually won $1.5 million dollars that she went as far as to renting a limo that was driving her around for the day, but at the end of the day she couldn't even pay for the ride.
I won't comment on the fact that 99.9% of the shoppers were African American or that one shopper interviewed tried to sound sympathetic by saying that she really didn't need the clothes, but would rather some assistance with paying her rent instead prompting the mentally ill woman to immediately cut her a check.
