A British Nigerian couple recently gave birth to a white baby girl bearing blue eyes and blonde hair. Nmachi is her name, meaning “Beauty of God,” and she has everyone baffled with her genetic makeup.

“What the flip?” said Ben, a very shocked dad, “Is she mine?” he joked. “Of course she is mine. My wife is true to me. Even if she hadn't been, the baby wouldn't have looked like that!” he said.

Doctors at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup where Nmachi was born have told the parents Nmachi is definitely no albino, and even more puzzling, neither Ben nor his wife Angela know of any mixed-race family history.

A genetics expert suspects some unknown mutation is the most likely explanation. “The rules of genetics are complex and we still don't understand what happens in many cases,” he said.

“Of course, we are baffled too and want to know what's happened. But we understand life is very strange,” said Ben.

“All that matters is that she's healthy and that we love her. She's a proud British Nigerian.” (read the full story)

Last year, the National Geographic channel aired a special, “The Human Family Tree.” It gave a run down on random changes in our genetic code dating all the way back to the beginning of time. The special was aimed at unlocking the mystery of who we are and how we got here. (see a clip below)
