Directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, “Mama I Want To Sing” is one movie that is filled with A-List celebrities, but seems to be taking a D-List amount of time for its world premiere….

Good News is, the folks over at Black Voices managed to get their hands on an unofficial trailer of the film which is finally set to make it's first screening as the closing night selection at the 13th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival Sept. 23 through Sept. 27.

“I am thrilled that the first screening of 'Mama, I Want To Sing!' will be at the Urbanworld Film Festival. The financial crisis placed the world on hold, especially independent films, but despite setbacks, we kept working on the film. What the audience will see is not yet the finished product, but it was extremely important to all of us to be involved in Urbanworld, because Urbanworld is OUR world!,” says Charles.

Inspired by the hit off-Broadway play, “Mama I Want To Sing” starring Ciara and Lynn Whitfield is a film that portrays a preacher's daughter, Amara, who sings in the church choir before being discovered by a well-established musician. Soon she rises to international fame as a pop singer. The cast also includes Patti LaBelle, Prophetess Juanita Bynum (in her film debut), Hill Harper, Ben Vereen, Billy Zane, Marvin Winans, Kevin Phillips, Kim Porter, Ross Francis, Shonda Farr, and Mariah Roberson.
