Viola Davis Goes For A Natural Change with L.A. Times Magazine Photo Shoot

Viola Davis completely flipped the script in the looks department for her latest photo shoot with L.A. Times magazine. Rocking her own natural, short hair, the Oscar nominated actress tapped into her inner super model to express a side of her that is rarely shown.

Wearing designs from Jason Wu, Thierry Mugler, and Marchesa, Davis strikes poses that gives thanks, sings praise, and calls on God to help her bring about change for our up-and-coming youth."I am doing this out of necessity. If I am not the instrument of change, I can meander through this business and be the black woman who always has two or three scenes but with fabulous actors around me,” she said during an exclusive interview.

“I have so many young people that come to the house I can’t even count,” Davis says. “They come to L.A. feeling lost. Some want to be actors, some don’t. They just want to be somebody.” (read more)

Lifting Up Lives First Annual Rock The Runway Show Hosted by NeNe Leakes

Lifting Up Lives, a non-profit organization that empowers women affected by domestic violence, held its first fashion show on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 at The Clift Hotel in San Francisco. The show was hosted by Real Housewives of Atlanta's very own, NeNe Leakes, and performances were given by Kim Hill (formely of The Black Eye Peas) and new pop sensation Nesta Rae.
NeNe Leaks (center) posed with Lifting Up Lives founder, Mark Rogers (left) and her body guard (right)
The event unfortunately took off to a bad start, as general admission ticket buyers were under the impression it was to be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. However, upon arrival, all who didn't purchase V.I.P. access were informed the time changed and no-one would be able to get in until 1 p.m. To make matters worse, no-one got in until after 1:30, and once inside, there was no where to be seated.

As the show began, NeNe Leakes stood tall in casual chic attire consisting of brown leather pants, a cream colored silk button down, and leopard print Christian Louboutin booties. She made a short, but impressionable speech, followed by models rocking the runway in designs by various Bay Area fashion designers. The original list of designers were said to be Dahae Elyse Kim, Daniel Sudar, Sonar Denim, Mikelsen and Danielle Pettee along with New York Designers Stevie Boi (Lady Gaga’s eyewear designer) and Devon Thomas. However, I'm almost 100 percent certain that list changed completely. Stevie Boi was definitely not in the building.

The event was intended to support women of domestic violence, which serves a good cause, so many of us chalked the horrible experience up to simply doing a good deed for charity purposes. Despite how it may sound, it wasn't all bad. Some of the fashion was actually pretty good. And, although porn star Farrah Foxx wasn't in the show itself, she was in the audience showing us how women weighing over 300 lbs. can rock fish net stockings and leather shorts just like anybody else. Word.

Overall, had the event been a bit more organized, it could have been a great show. Check out a few highlights below.

Madonna Gets Armoured Up In Givenchy for Super Bowl Half Time Show

Madonna's Super Bowl XLVI half time performance is all the talk this evening. Some hated it, and some said it was the best they've ever seen. I happen to think it was pretty original, but nothing to get thoroughly excited about. What did stand out, was the cartwheels she was doing in 6 inch heels at 53-years-old, and the theme she chose, which screamed Egyptian love.

Dressed down in red, black, and gold, Madonna and her team cheered on in leather skirts, belted accessories, and thigh-high boots. Madonna herself opted for a Givenchy couture ensemble, Bulgari jewels and a custom Philip Treacy headpiece. Both M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj sported headpieces by Erickson Beamon.

No questions about it, the looks were exotic. And, in case you missed it, you can be the judge for yourself on how well they all did by checking out the performance below.

Nicki Minaj takes a break from calling fellow rap sistah's Stupid Hoe with nappy hair, and focuses more on self with a much more classic and relaxing sound. In the newly surfaced track titled Marilyn Monroe Nicki uses one of her icons to separate her strengths from her weakness. Sounding confused, she questions whether or not the late Monroe ever felt the same way she does about life."I can get low. I can get low; don't know which way is up. Yeah, I can get high. I can get high like I could never come down. Call me a curse, or just call me blessed. If you can't handle my worse, you aint getting my best. Is this how Marilyn Monroe felt -- felt -- felt?" Check it out below.

Woman Dies From Possible Allergic Reaction To Hair Bonding Glue

Chemicals found in relaxers, hair colors, and various cosmetics have often been associated with severe and tragic allergic reactions, and now we can add hair bonding glue to the list of products to take extra precautions with.
In a bizarre case, Atasha Graham, 34, is said to have collapsed from some type of allergic reaction after returning home from a night out dancing. Although there was no way to be 100 percent certain, the coroner's office was told the allergic reaction may have been caused by the combination of sweat from dancing, and glue used to attach her hair extensions, entering into her bloodstream.
Home Office pathologist Doctor Michael Heath told the inquest: "I’ve seen cases where people using solvent to apply hair extensions has actually caused anaphylactic shock. There are about 10 to 20 deaths a year in this country, many more in America. I have seen four in the last three months."

Tyler Perry Speaks On "How To Be Successful" and Credits One Thing

The grace of God. That's the one and only answer Tyler Perry has when it comes to how you can be successful. That, along with believing in yourself and never letting go of your dream.

"You can plant seeds all day long... and nothing happens. When a seed is planted in the ground, all you can do is water it. You cannot control the sunshine. You cannot control the weather, and you cannot control whether the locals will come and try and destroy it. All you can do is plant your seed in the ground, water it, and believe."

Love Yourself: Dr. Martin Luther King on Being Black and Beautiful

When it comes to being black, Dr. Martin Luther King once had a few choice words to encourage and inspire the people of our race. His message was to love yourself, because if you don't nobody else will. Love yourself, despite the turmoil much of the world has put us through because of the color of our skin.

"We don't have anything to be ashamed of. Somebody told a lie one day. They couched it in language. They made everything black ugly and evil. Look in your dictionary and see the synonym for the word black. It's always something degrading, and low and sinister. Look at the word white. It's always something pure. But I want to get the language right tonight. I want to get the language so right, that everybody here will cry out, "YESSSS, I'm black. I'm proud of it. I'm black. I'm beautiful!!!" -- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
