Serena Williams surely doesn’t needs another trade, as I’m sure tennis has been good enough to her to where she can retire off the proceeds. But looking forward to living a life of beauty after the ball and racket, Williams enrolls to become a nail technician.
A very excited Serena Williams took to her Global Grind blog over the holiday weekend to explain what instantly inspired her to register for a West Palm Beach Nail School:
“No one likes getting their nails done more than I do. As a matter of fact I go every 4 days to get a manicure and every 7 days for a pedicure. So, I had a brilliant idea to get certified to be a nail tech. Besides the fact that I am coming out with a nail collection from a company called HairTech, I thought “Serena this is a no brainer.” Immediately after I came home from the Australian Open I researched some schools and enrolled in a course that allowed me to complete 240 hours (that’s what u have to do to get certified at least in fla) at my own pace. 240 hours may seem like a lot, but I intend on completing it within the year. It normally takes 6 weeks!!!,” says Williams.
Now, if Solange Knowles can hop up and decide out of the blue to be a Disc Jockey, why can’t Serena hop up and decide out of the blue to be a nail technician? After all, no-one ever said one passion was all you can have, or one dream is all you can follow. What they said was, BE ALL YOU CAN BE, and be the best at whatever it is you decide to do.
Serena’s classmates are lucky to have her on board to share an exciting journey into a new career. She spoke briefly on some of the students being surprised by her nice work on her first day of school. She says, “They thought I was on that show called “I get that a lot!””
