There use to be a time when mistaken identity occurred when a person wore the same type of clothing, or shared similar features, and more importantly have been identified as being a suspect. But, now-a-days all it takes is having the same first name to be mistaken for someone else; at-least that's what the Atlanta PD apparently believes.
Teresa Culpepper claims she spent 53 days in jail because of a mix-up with another woman with the same first name. Nothing else. “Her birth date didn't match. Her address didn't match. Her description didn't match. Other than the name Teresa, nothing matched,” said Culpepper's lawyer.
It wasn't until the victim appeared in court 53 days later, to reveal Culpepper was not the person who assaulted her.
