Doris Payne, The 85-Year-Old Jewelry Thief Strikes Again

October 28, 2015

Doris Payne can’t stop, won’t stop until she drop, and she’s definitely not worried about no police. The 85-year-old is said to have been jailed more than 20 times throughout her lifelong career as an international jewelry thief.

Known for hitting up jewelry stores all over the world, Payne says her biggest accomplishment was making off with a 10.5 karat diamond ring. She’s addicted. And whatever she wants, she gets, she stated in a past interview. So, it should come as little surprise that she has struck once again. This time for allegedly stealing a pair of Christian Dior designer earrings from Saks Fifth Avenue in Atlanta.

According to People Magazine, an officer allegedly saw the 85-year-old from a surveillance camera swipe the earrings and quickly leave the store.  She was arrested and charged with theft by shoplifting. Once at the station, authorities learned Payne was also wanted on a warrant for swiping a diamond ring worth $33,000 from a Mall in North Carolina.

Payne has become a career criminal, with mugshots of her arrests dating back to the 1960’s, WSB-TV reports. Pickard told the station that the woman began stealing when she was just 20 years old.
