Laverne Cox looked stunning at the 2016 SAG Awards red carpet in her Prabal Gurung gown, but dress talk wasn’t the main topic of conversation with the star tonight.
The Orange Is the New Black actress used her position on the carpet to talk about something that desperately needs attention—the water crisis in Flint, Mich.
For those who are unaware, high levels of lead have poisoned the city’s municipal water supply for at least a year, prompting extensive emergency measures to keep residents safe, and Cox used this platform to draw attention to the problem in hopes of raising awareness, funds and coming up with a solution.
“I made a commitment to treasure this moment, because I may not be here next year and there is a lot of crazy stuff happening in the world right now,” she told E!’s Giuliana Rancic on Live From the Red Carpet.
